Women’s Golf off to North Carolina for the Ironwood Invitational

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s golf team will not have a lot of time off, as the Chanticleers will be back in action on April 4-5 at the Ironwood Invitational. East Carolina will host the event at the Ironwood Country Club located in Greenville, N.C.
The two-day event will have 36 holes of action on the opening day, Monday, April 4, followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday, April 5. The Ironwood Country Club plays as a par-72 and is laid out over 6,200 yards. It is the first Lee Trevino Signature Course east of the Mississippi.
The Chanticleers are coming off their best performance of the spring after winning the team championship of the Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate. It was the team’s second win of the season after picking up a victory at the Buccaneer Classic last fall. It was also the team’s fifth top-four finish of the season.
Tiffany Arafi picked up co-medalist honors at the Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate. It was her third win of the season, after winning the Buccaneer Classic and the Club at Olde Stone events last fall. Her finish marked her fifth top-four individual finish of the year.
With the solid play of last week’s lineup, head coach Katie Quinney will keep the same lineup of Caitlin Evans-Brand, Sophia Carlsen, Arafi, Jenjira Jihangkul, and Sara Sarrion. Maika Llarena will make the trip and play as an individual.
A 14-team field will be participating in the Ironwood Invite. Joining CCU and host East Carolina will be Augusta, Campbell, Charlotte, College of Charleston, High Point, James Madison, North Florida, Ohio State, Richmond, South Florida, UNCW, Western Kentucky.
The Ironwood Invitational will be the CCU’s final warm-up leading to the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golf Championship which will be held April 17-19 at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
