ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan played its annual Spring Football Game presented by DTE MIGreenPower on Saturday (April 2) at Michigan Stadium, marking a close to the spring season. The Blue team defeated the Maize team, 20-12.

The Maize team struck first with a chip-shot field goal (25 yards) from kicker Rhett Andersen at 7:36 in the first quarter.

The first touchdown came just after the start of the second quarter, when Blue team running back Tavierre Dunlap punched in a three-yard score at 11:55. The Maize team tried to answer on its next possession but was stopped at the goal line and had to settle for a field goal to close the half, with Anderson knocking one in from 31 yards out. The score at halftime was 7-6, Blue team out front.

The Blue team added to its lead when the second half started. Quarterback Alan Bowman hit early enrollee freshman receiver Darrius Clemons for a 35-yard touchdown with 3:31 remaining in the third quarter, making it 14-6. Anderson responded with his third field goal of the afternoon, a 33-yarder, and the lead was cut to five.

The Blue squad added one last score in the final minutes, set up by running the second double-pass of the afternoon. The scoring drive finished with a touchdown catch from Sam Staruch via Bowman, making it 20-9 after the extra point was missed.

With just 37 seconds remaining on the game clock, Anderson kicked in his third field goal of the day for the Maize team, this time from 24 yards out. Time expired before the Maize squad could get a rhythm going, and the Blue team took home the 20-12 victory.

Quarterback Cade McNamara played two series for each team and finished the day with a combined passing line of 3-of-7 for 16 yards.
